About Zhang Huan – A Chinese artist
Zhang Huan was born in 1965 in Yang City, He Nan Province, China lives and works in New York, China. After he was born, moved to the country with her grandmother and three brothers and lived there for eight years. The experience was important because it allowed grow with nature and develop a relationship with her, without inhibitions. Only returned to An Yang later and was a very radical movement as it is a pretty city large, about five million people. He moved to Beijing later on. The first years spent in the city were pretty dramatic. I was very undisciplined, especially at school and a terrible student. I could not concentrate, they were always pulling me. I could not stay standing in a room, I wanted to be free. So he spent most of my time alone drawing. In some ways this is how it started.
Three years in the making, Donkey was completed in 2006 and was the first installation Zhang Huan mechanics did after he transferred part of his artistic production in New York back to Shanghai. The artist was both overwhelmed and dismayed by the dominant standard and the presence of the skyscrapers in the city. Other works such as that known to raise the level of water in a fish pond, which took place on August 15, 1997, with the involvement of other interpreters. Forty or more participants, recent immigrants to Beijing from other parts of China were invited to enter the pond to raise the water level, an absurd gesture, but highlights the far-reaching effects of even the slightest movement or gesture.
While moving to the U.S. and the rapid growth of its international reputation has allowed Zhang to work in a more ambitious scale (hard to My acclimatise and America 1999, held the Seattle Art Museum and My Australia, 2000, held at the National Gallery of Australia), which continues to produce works in which he was the only participant. Peace came shortly after his best known work tree and shares some of the same concerns.
