Matthew Brannon was born in 1971 in St. Maries, Idaho. Matthew Brannon grew up surrounded by the death of rock and Los Angeles punk scene. Opportunities to produce quick and easy advertising and information materials such as posters, postcards, pamphlets and fanzines were used in manifold ways in this subculture, and were a definite influence on the socialization Brannon art. He now lives in New York and works in both high and production low range of prints and posters. His tapestries and prints are produced using traditional printing processes, the nature of which often opposes the sad images created.
Brannon elegance and formality consistent contrasts mysterious contents. Thus, the supposedly easy to consume surfaces are overturned by the use of claims, sometimes surrealist texts, it seems, as seen in the series of two-color screen prints in the exhibition. Elegant graphical representations of plants floating on the title "How it all ends," "Hair of the Dog", "Police Officer Giving Up" and "Sick Whore."
Following of the thematic orientations of "penetration" (last show Brannon Jan Winkelmann / Berlin) "Hyena" is expanding its focus on the issue the fragility and vulnerability of the human psyche. The constant and fears about this that sometimes a glimpse into the depths of the human abyss. Often these lead to what the artist calls "personal pathology", ie substance abuse, alcoholism, sexual misadventure, careerism and megalomania. Best viewed in the two pieces new font that the balance between prose and poetry.
